my sink is testing my limits, please help....

the lady wanted a new pedestal sink in the bathroom, no problem. now she wants chrome pipes cause you can see them, no problem. I want no leaks - problem. I can not for the life of me get the @#$@ compression joint between the 1 1/4" cheap plastic drain pipe and the 1 1/4" metal p-trap to stop leaking. I've got about 2 square inches to work in, but none the less I've got the lock nut as tight as it will go and the plastic pipe still twists inside the metal one and leaks. any ideas on this one? I got a better gasket thinking that would help and it didn't. can I fill the thing with silicone?

When you say "gasket" are you referring to the cone shaped O-ring on the tail piece? Make sure it is put on correctly whereas the smaller side is facing downward. I've found that hand tight is good enough, is the drain centered with the P-trap?

Can you fit a rubber no hub coupler in there? If you can, put it in, tighten it up with a screw driver and your done.
