Wg,
Am pumping water from a lake for a cottage. Looks clear in the lake but inside it has a tea stained color. Have been told these are tanins. What can I do do filter this color out ?

If these are old metal pipes or have metal parts that are old it very well may be rust from those pipes. If this is your problem then just run the water a while and it should clear up.
If this is an organism then you may want to install a replacable filter system in the feed line to filter out your discoloration.
Just some thoughts.

Wg,
Can't be rust this is a new construction. Its apparently tanins in the water. Been told only a reverse osmosis system will remove the color.

Even new plumbing will cause this coloring. Run your water about an hour on two different days. Try it you might like it.
Good Luck

I've got a lot of tannins in my water as well. My research led me to believe that both Ozone and RO will work. I personally would not recommend either method since the tannins don't really harm you. The only possible problem they can cause is if you're using a UV filter, tannins will lower the translucency of the water requiring stronger UV lights to neutralize the bacteria.
Ozone systems are very expensive, and RO systems are complex and require maintenance. I also believe RO pulls all the good qualities from the water as well.
