Hi, Thanks in advance for all your help and suggestions. My house was built in the 60's. I noticed after I washed dishes, water appeared at the drain outside of my walk-out basement. Any ideas why this happened and how to fix it? Also, the drain outside of my walk-out basement always has some water in it. Any ideas to fix this since when it rains it always back up there. Many thanks for your help.

Sounds like a possible blockage of your main line which is backing up through the lowest opening.

Thanks Joed. Inside the furnace room in the basement, there is a big 5" galvanized (I think) tube that ran from the top of the house to the basement floor. There is a square knob for access I think. Is it the place I can access and clean the line? Should I contact a plumber or is it something I can do?

Thanks again.

There could be roots growing in the pipe outside your house that need to be cut out. You could try it yourself if you have the tools but a plumber or rotorooter guy would have a scope to look inside the pipe to make sure it's clear.

I paid $185 in Medford, MA. I don't know how they charge but the distance from was only 25' to the street.
