I'm removing and eventually re-routing a bunch of water pipe with our remodel. is there any reason why I shouldn't re-use the pipe I remove/ there are quite a few sections long enough and aparently undamaged after I cut off the current connections/elbows.

thanks!

If the pipe is copper, I would reuse it. If it is galvanized, I would discard it.

You didn't say what the pipe was made of.

Due to the cost of copper nowadays (2007) just about everyone re-uses lengths of copper pipe.

But it is not out of the question that corrosion from the inside out could have left thin spots in unpredictable places that could result in leaks. At least try to put pipe that is more than 20 years old in exposed locations such as basement ceilings.

You may also want to find out from word of mouth about town whether the water is unusually hard on pipes.
