putting in a new gas stove, replacing old gas stove, apparently old gas line is not up to code because the separate shutoff valve is not located in the same room as the appliance but in the basement. so i will put in a new 3/4 inch valve in the kitchen behind the stove. is having two shutoff valves on the same line a problem. second, is there a difference if i use the white teflon paste when i put in the new valve or if i use the blue blocker stuff. is one of the compounds better for natural gas connections, i generally have used the white teflon paste for water and steam connections in the house.

2 gas valves in the same line is not a problem. Using teflon tape is not recommended in my area, just teflon thread sealant.
Tape has a tendency to shred and distort, sometimes blocking the interior diameter of the pipe.

Glad to hear that two are OK. I moved my mom's gas dryer about 6 feet. And even though there was a shutoff in the same utility room I put a second one closer and in back of the dryer. I don't remember what code says but it sounded like they want one very close to the appliance. So I also figured a 2nd shutoff couldn't hurt.
(p.s. I didn't use teflon tape either. I use that guky stuff. I must have checked for leaks a hundred times with that liquid test where you look for bubbles to see if you are leaking.)
