How far can a toilet be drained horizontally and still flush properly? I am moving on about 6 feet from the vertical drain.

You have a maximum distance for a trap and vent but no maximum distance for the length of drain other than cleanouts required as long as the drain is properly sized equal to the plumbing units of load served by that drain.

Good Luck

In my area, in regards to a recent code change, 4' 6" is the maximum distance from toilet to vent.

I guess what I really want to know is, will the toilet push the waste horizontally 6 feet or so or will I end up with a clogged toilet all the time. Thanks.

As Dunbar said your concern is your distance from the trap in the toilet to the vent. Reason this vent prevents the weight of the water from sucking your trap dry causing noxous fumes to enter your home from your sewer or septic system. The water will push almost any distance as long as the proper fall in the pipe is maintained. Once you flush your toilet within a few feet that water spreads out so that more than half your drain line will be empty laying the water along the bottom of the drain. This is the reason for the minimum size of that drain line so it can not affect the operation of your toilet unless drain line becomes plugged.

Worry about your vent. Your 6' drain is only part of that drainage. It must travel on out your house then down your sewer line to the city then clear across your city to the waste water treatment plant. Length of drain is not your concern. Dunbar said it best you have a maximum distance for the vent to stop suction from your trap otherwise meet the minimum size waste line with proper fall and you have no further concern of operation of your toilet.

Good Luck

Thanks for the help. It isn't the answer I wanted, but I guess I want the toilet to flush correctly.
