One of my ventures! Everytime I looked out the window in our new (older) home, I saw the wires hanging from the roof, over the yard and to the pole in the back. UGLY to say the least. I asked some questions about buring the cable. apparently our utilities company used to encourage this and provided the service for free! wow. so i called.
The service was not free anymore, but for only $250, they would do the hookup. all i had to do is dig the trench and the cables needed at least 36 inches of cover. Easy right? I thought so. I guess i did not realize how long it takes a man to dig down 36 inches. yowsa. I dug down the foundation close to the house first and decided to rent a trencher after that. $86 for 2 hours shouldn't hurt too bad. ONce i got the monster in my back yard I began digging the trench. Again, easy right? Not so much. Not quite deep enough the first go around. I tried to go over it again, but in order to do this i had to flatten the mounds of dirt on either side of the hole. Things were going great until one of the self propelled wheels fell into the trench. You could about imagin how heavy this thing is. It was digging deeper with every move. Now i am not a big guy, but I have some muscle. So I horse the thing out of the hole with all my might using a rocking and pulling motion. Phew! got it out. All good. Until I decide to grab the shovel. OUCHHHH! Excruciating pain in my back. Found out later that I had pulled 2 ribs out! yeah, i know right. But did that stop me? No. I had paid for the rental of that darn thing and i was going to get every dimes worth. I continued working the rest of the day taking very shallow breaths. I had already ordered the cut over for monday morning.
