The previous owners tiled the 1st floor bath around the base of the toilet instead of placing toilet on top of tile. I need to replace and have it sit on top of the tile. having a problem finding toilet with base larger than old one. Any ideas??? Thanks

Are you installing new tile??

Or are you just replacing the toilet?

If just replacing the toilet you could do some custom tile - different color - around the tile area

Maybe a darker accent tile in the toilet area?

I just installed a new toilet, the Eljer Titan. It claims to have a larger footprint then standard (older) toilets. It may be large enough to cover your tiling problem. Because the new toilet will sit on top of the tile rather then the subfloor, you might need to increase the height of the closet flange to meet the bottom of the toilet. There are closet flange height extender kits available which consist of a couple plastic rings and a rubber gasket. Or you can try to use two wax rings instead of one and "wing it".

I use KOHLER they have decent footprints on elongated modeles. also fill in any gaps in tile prior to replacing with either a culk or grout if possible.
