I have a 6000w honda. It only seems to generate power when the throttle is wide open. Even then, it trips the circuit breaker when i turn on my Air Conditioner in my tent trailer. Any suggestions appreciated
Thanks happy holidays

It's not big enough for the AC.

Its hard for me to believe a 6000watt generator cant run an A/C on a pop up tent trailer. I guess I will have to check the manufacturing specs on the A/C.
I though for sure the A/C wasnt putting out enough juice.

Well if the generator is 120/240 volt then you only have 3000 watts for each 120 volt receptacle. That equals 25 amps at full load. The AC probably would run once it started. However startup surge is likely too large for the generator.
Give us some specs on the AC.

For what it's worth... I also have a camper and keep it connected to a 120v 20amp outlet at work during the summer. If I run the ac on high it will trip the breaker. Run it on low and it will run all day. Just a thought.

Most RV air conditioners are 120V and 16A. Your generator can supply 25A per leg which is definitely enough to run it (assuming you have a 30A power outlet and connection to the pop-up trailer). However, it needs to be able to supply the locked rotor current (LRA) during startup. Some generators will call this "surge" capacity, but it is typically no more than about 50% of the generator rating. Your AC unit may have a LRA of 60 to 80 amps -- a bugger to start with a lot of generators less than 10KW.

A 240V air conditioner would really help by cutting the amp needs in half -- but you'll only find a 240V power drop at the campsites for the large motorhomes. Typical RV/campsite power outlets are 120V 20A or 120V 30A.
