Just got in about an hour ago from crappie fishing trip to Hillsdale lake. Got off work and was such a beautiful day had to go fishing. Took my neighbor along who doesnt get to go very much. We found the crappies in about 15 feet of water close to the dam of the lake. Water temp is 54 degrees in this area. Not sure about the rest of the lake as didnt have time to get around the lake much. Water is stained to muddy. Fish were holding in brush about 15 feet deep. Caught around 20 before dark set in. Using 2" Kalins twister tail grubs in the blue pearl color. My neighbor was using a yellow and green body with pink head maribo jig and out fished me! But that was great as he works so much doesnt get to go fishing very often, did me good to see him have some fun and catch some fish. They werent big slabs but were in the 10 to 11 inch range. Still was fine time on the water with good friend and neighbor. Going out tomorrow (day off) and see if I can find some bigger size crappies. They are using brush piles in open water on some kind of break line such as creek channel break. Havent gone into the heavily timbered areas yet. Seem to prefer 15 feet at this time. We are about 3 weeks yet before they move to the banks to spawn. Using graph to locate brushpiles then flasher to pinpoint brush and crappies after putting out a marker for reference. Anyway fishing is on the upswing around here and thats a good thing......RL
