I'm planning on remodeling my kitchen. It will be attached to my garage. It's a small 1 car garage which I never park in so I just use it for storage. I was considering trying to build something like a trash chute so I could open a door on my wall above my countertop, and be able to drop trash into my open trash can in my garage. The wall between the garage and kitchen is just 1/2" drywall, insulated. Anybody have any good suggestions as to what I could buy that might be good for this use? Because it would need to be sealed well, I was first thinking something like a dry storage bin for a boat. I was thinking of even using a big piece of pvc pipe or something to drop cans into to separate them to the recycling bin. Any ideas/suggestions would be awesome.

Get a wife...
It will be hard to seal this door from air and heat loss. Plus for it to work your trash cans will need to be open all the time. This is gonna attract animals. Coons are smart, they will figure out where the trash is coming from and could try to use the door to dine in.
If you have other windows open in your house, and that door doesnt seal, airflow could create a suction around that door and suck in trash fumes... Keeping the chute clean will be a project in itself too.
I'd not do this idea. .Sounds cool, but the concept isnt around for a reason.

Garage wall also needs to be fire rated. Putting a hole in it would defeat that.

I was thinking about this too
I think one possible soltion would be to box in where the trash will go in the garage. Box it in & insulate it & make it fire rated
Seems like a lot of work, I think myself I'm going to cancel my plans to do this. The deciding factor would be the fire rating. Too much of a hassle.
HGTV did have this exact soultion on one of their shows. It was made to back up to a closet, not the garage - so it was not fire rated. But it was made to seal out the odors/air.
