I'm on my 5th one. They are not all that durable, but I'm putting them under heavy load. I have 40 year old 2x12's on 12" centers (and old wood is 1 3/4" wide instead of 1.5"). Its the only way to drill holes between the joists. If you keep the holes to 3/4" and smaller, it should last a while. But I've done some 1 1/8" and 1 3/8" holes and those seem to take its toll on the cheap gears inside the angle unit.
I also sprung for a cordless 90 degree drill (a cheap harbor freight one that uses the same 18V batteries as my other drills, sawsall, and flashlight).

My great grandpa (who worked for Kitchen Aid) made this one a long time ago. Ive never had a chance or need to use it, but it gets the job done. Variable speed, good gear reduction, probably more solidly built then a store bought drill that is made today. Those mixers weighed a ton!

Well, I bought one at Home Cheapo - $20
I drilled 4 holes using a 5/8" bit & it's falling apart already & making noise
**sigh**

I have a couple of cheapies as well. It sure would be nice to know if they make a better one. I took mine apart after I used it twice (drilling holes with a 1 inch auger bit with a 1/2'' drill) There was no bushings or bearings: the shafts merely spin in the plastic. Moral of the story, buy a dozen!

Yeah, the plastic on one end started to come apart
I just bought it today, so I'm bringing it back
I could see if I drilled a bunch of holes...but 4...??? :banghead:

Try and find one or advertise for a Milwaukee D-Handle 1/2" or the Magnum 1/2" pistol grip with a right angle attachment. Been using the same pistol grip for 30 years. All holes up to 2 1/2" self feeds are fine, and it makes a great sheetrock mud and paint mixer.

I could have picked up a right angle drill over a year ago at a decent price
Never figured I needed it at the time
