Does anyone know what the rough opening should be for a 9' x 7' garage door? Or how about a 8' x 7'? Thanks.

Your finished opening should be 9'x7' or 8'x7'. I use 2x,(1-1/2 inches), material for a jamb so if the framing can be plumb and level all around just add 1.5 in to each side and 1.5 to the top for the RO.. Garage jambs can be a hair small, (1/4 or 3/8 ), because of the way the door is. A hair big is generally ok because the stop will make it up.Right on is the best.

Sometimes there are cutouts in the foundation to deal with but that would be another post.
