Went to Guntersville, Alabama last weekend with a buddy named Art. We were there 3 days and caught about ten bass and helped a guy that was also bass fishing with light tackle drag in a 20 pound carp that he tail hooked by accident with a crankbait. We got that one on video. Picture of our largest bass should be seen below. 5 pounder caught by Art. My largest was a 4 pounder. All fish were released live and well.

Doc thanks for the invite. Last time I fished in texas was about 10 years or so ago. I remembered a story concerning that fishing trip. We went to Toledo Bend for about 4 days. Fist we had no clue how to manuver in all the trees on that lake. Didn't know the cut travel lanes to travel across the lake. Idled around first couple of days. It rained monsoon season for two whole days. On the second day of rain it suddenly quit. About a half hour later with rainbows in the sky I spotted two huge trees that had dozens of buzzards with their wings spread drying in the sun. I made a comment about the buzzards because of nothing else to do because of the bad fishing. I threw a top water lure out but did not start to real it in. Instead I had my finger stuck in the air counting those buzzards. About that time a good sized bass hit my lure. I grabbed the bait caster and mightily set the hook without knowing that I had not set the real off cast. I threw the rod and reel into the bottom of my bass boat and started reeling in the line hand over hand. I not only brought in a nice fish which did not make trophey status I did get a trophy example of a birds nest in my bait caster that would have made anyone rampant for a week.

I was in the process of ranting about my stupidity when right at the side of the boat a huge logger head turtle surfaced. I yelled for my two fishing partners in my boat to grab the huge logger head turtle. They looked at me like I totally lost my mind. I ran to the back corner of the boat and grabbed the turtle by the tail and held on. The turtle was so huge that I couldn't get it into the boat which definitely made my fishing partners happy. I still held on to that turtle. One of my buddies helped hold the tail of the turtle and my other buddy idled my boat back to the marina impound. When we entered into the sea wall area toward the dock everyone on the dock saw something was wrong. You had to picture this low profile Skeeter bass boat sticking with its nose in the are at a 45 degree angle because we have three full grown men standing in the back corner of the boat. We limped to the dock with a crowd to greet us and help with our delemma. Needless to say we cleared the dock when we threw that 75 pound logger head snapping turtle on that dock. Boy it is amazing how fast people can move.

Are you sure you want in the same boat as me? Most people say that no one ever went hunting or fishing with me without coming back with some outlandish dumb story that happened.

I do appreciate the invite to Texas. May take you up on it. Right now I am planning another trip to either Guntersville, Alabama or Thunder Bay Canada. Kind of radical on short range planning. Hard telling which way I will go but will find out when I get there.

Suspect this trip will be back to Guntersville for some mousing for bass in the thick weeds.

Hope you enjoyed just one of my rememberable stories of my hunting or fishing experiences.

first off it use to be aganist the law to be on the Bend with out a compass and a map and a spare six gallons of gas ,the buzzards where waiting on people that did not have those items and wound up lost and never found their way out .Lake livingstone and the Big Sam Rayburn where nearly as bad ,I spent 16 hours lost on Livingston when it first opened.
Now in my short time on this earth I have managed to swamp 1 boat 3 times and 1 boat twice .
Was in a brand new charger boat backed onto the ramp wife in the truck ,she backs me in the water ,a twist of the key and we are fired up and running into reverse I go gunning the engine boat won't move more gas given still not moving yell to her back me in further more gas still not moving back in more and realy reving the engine and going in forward and reverse by now I am cussing like a sailor .Wife gets out wades into water to give it a push when suddenly she says where is all that water coming from and I am full up in water never even noticed she pulls out and while water is draining she says should these be on here when I look I had never taken the hold down straps off in the back nor had I put in the plug ,there must have been 20 people standing around there

Glad that others have stories about fishing and hunting besides me telling on myself. Doc, I fully enjoyed AND RELATED to your story. Sounds like we both would fit well in the same boat after all.

Anyone else got a big one that got away or a dumb action, or exciting story of the fishing or hunting. How about some pictures too>

Enjoyed
