Was up by Squaw creek wildlife refuge near Mound City, Mo. today and my daughter took these pictures of the bald eagles. Several hundred are using the refuge at this time of year. We counted 124 from this viewing area we stopped at near pool 4 also almost half million snow geese are there right now. It is quite a sight......RL

I have been up to the north country for about 3 decades about once a year. Never have I seen 124 bald eagles in my life. I have seen one here and there but never total in my life that many bald eagles.

Can't even imagine a 1/2 million snow geese. Could you imagine cleaning up behind them? Ha Ha.

Where do I fill out an application to clean up behind that many snow geese, can you find any other job with such job security ??? Now talking about a BIG job !

Yes I can remember never seeing one around these parts in my younger days. Now it is quite common. This many though is rare unless you go to Squaw Creek they chow down on the ducks that migrate into the area. Only bad thing is if they nest on your favorite lake the fish and game authority will close the lake to all activity for about 500 yards around the nest. This usually happens right over my honeyhole. HA! Yes also to all those geese wouldnt want to be under them in a boat when they fly off the refuge in the morning to feed......RL

RL, great pictures. Don't know how old your daughter is? but great to see this. Kids today don't seem to see beyond a puter and game boy. We love it when the grand kids can come up and see the free true beauties of this good old USA. Had apair of Pialaitted woodpeckers in the yard today tryed getting pic, but spooked. Usually see one, but a pair was my first. Was always understanding that geese do not drop while in flight?? Sure keep outah way of those pigeons. Hey keep it up with them youngin's, they'll remember that much more than any TV.

Actually dont know myself if geese drop in flight. Was just thinking they probably do. I know they get serious when on the ground!! The pileated woodpeckers are quite impressive cant say as I have seen two together. Usually see them during spring turkey season quite often. My daughter, Sarah, is 17 and an avid outdoors person. We hunt and fish together when ever we can, she is much better shot than me but I have the edge when fishing. Will be posting some more pictures of old and recent fishing and hunting trips over the next few months. I will be retiring from UAW Skilled Trades at Ford Motor Parts and Service Division in 15 months at the age of 53 ,so should have plenty of time to spend in the great outdoors. Ive really enjoyed learning from all you professionals on this forum as electrical has been my weakest subject. I make a few posts but mostly read and learn from Wg , you, joed, suemark and ohm 1 (now strike plate). Anyway hope all you guys are doing well and have a great Xmas......RL

RL, noticed you mentioned ATV another post! do you have a snow mobile and if so how do you rate usage between the two?? Do you have ridable trails for ATV. What type terraine?(?spelling?) do you have there, always saw Kansas as being flat, tornadoes and all? Do you use your ATV for plowing? Would like to get one of the toys but worry about the back. Had sno-bile years back, when 40 was top end. Now 120MPH is there for the no-fears. Hats off to FORD and Kenseth on final Winston Cup Championship. Any input on a comparison welcomed. TY

Hey Wannabee see Don has the forum up and running again. Actually dont have a snow mobile but Polaris ATV, Ford Pickup and mower all 4x4. Dont know that much about the polaris as purchased 2nd hand just to have fun. Lots of trails to ride on down here in K-land. Mostly flat in west part of state, pretty hilly here in eastern part. I live about 20 miles south of Kansas City. Not out in the country but populated area. Hope to build in rural area when retired. As for Tornadoes you mean one of these.....RL
